| My Family Journal | | | | | Indy 500 Date: 05/28/2008Jim and I had 6 whole days to ourselves. The kids stayed at my Mom's and she survived LOL.
It was so nice to get our camper set up and just relax. It's times like these I am reminded why I fell in love with Jim in the first place. I am usually so occupied with wiping behinds and noses I don't get to think of Jim. It was like we were dating again. One night we air guitared - a tradition that began in our little one bedroom apartment in Fishers. We had an "all for Bobby" day. We at at Sullivan's for lunch. Nothing taste quite as good as a $100 lunch (thanks to Beazer Home's gift certificates). Then we went to Clay Terrace outdoor mall. I love that place. It was such a perfect day for it. I got a new bra at Victoria's Secret (my first VS bra ever!). It was a perfect day in my book.
The night before the 500 we went to IRP (or ORP depending who you ask) to see the midget race. I have to admit, I thoroughly enjoyed that race. Even more so than the 500. Our seats were perfect, the racing was fierce and the bratwurst was yummy. It did get pretty durn cold by the time it was over though. And of course I was wearing sandles.
We had an interesting trip back to the camp grounds afterwards. The snake pit seemed to have found their place ON 16th street and had one lane of traffic completely closed. We drove through a sea of people (think drunks) who were looking in our vehicle. One guy tapped on the window and asked that we turn up the music so he could hear it. As I looked over I saw he had a handkerchief around his nose and mouth. You know, like armed robbers? Scary stuff. It took us almost 3 hours go to a mile and a half. We didn't get back to the camper until almost 3am. Next year we know to go a different way. It's a longer drive but not considering the mayhem you miss. Plus, I'm past the point of wanting to show my ta-tas in exchange for plastic beads.
The weather the day of the 500 was perfect. I stayed in my seat until the 92nd lap. This is the lap that Jim and I sponsored in honor of his Dad. It was an exciting lap too because it was the start of green flag racing after a long yellow. Jim will tell his dad about the lap sponsor soon and we are sure he will be honored. Jim wants to put together some sort of gift package for him.
The crowd seemed to get excited after Danica Patrick got wrecked out by Ryan Brisco and she stormed up pit road towards his pits to, one would imagine, bitch him out. But IRL officials stopped her before she could bitch slap him. Much to the crowds disappointment. I personally lost interest in the race after this. I guess I'm a reluctant Danica fan. She's an overall bitch but she can race so my hat is off to her.
It was nice to leisurely head back to the camper after the race and have Italian sausage and a nap. Fighting that traffic after the 500 is one of my least favorite things in the world. We pulled out of the campground on Monday morning. I was sad the vacation was over but happy to go home to my babies. |
